Shane’s Introduction

Hello World! My name is Shane Xavier and I’m participating in the study abroad programme at Keele University. I am 19 years old (at the time of this blog post) and I am from the British Virgin Islands (Caribbean).

After I completed my Associates Degree in General Business Administration at my local college in 2009, I moved to the United Kingdom in September of that same year to attend the university which I put as my firm choice (Keele University). I did not know much about the U.K. or Keele, and being from another country, it was an interesting transition.

Looking back at my 1st year at Keele, I have to admit that it was one of the best years of my life. I had come to truly love the ‘bubble’, which had its own uniqueness and was filled with amazing people not only from the UK, but other parts of the world such as Australia, Canada and Korea (just to name a few). So you can imagine that I was a bit emotional when I had to head back home to the Caribbean for the summer.

During my time at Keele, I signed up for the Study Abroad Programme, which is one of the things that attracted me to the university in the first place. My undergraduate degree is International Business and International Relations, so I felt that studying in another country would have given it more value. I had four choices which were some states in the USA, Korea, Sweden and Canada. In the end, Uppsala University in Sweden was my first choice because I was already familiar with the USA and Canada, but was afraid to go to Korea (lol) :P.

All of my friends are jealous that I got the opportunity to go to Sweden in August and I am really excited with the thought. Sweden here I come!!!!!

Shane
