Hi! I’m Rebecca Robinson (although I tend to go by Beckie) and I study American Studies and History. I’m kind of geeky and more than a little insane so you’ll have to bear with me, but hopefully that won’t be too hard.
The big question of course, is why did I choose to study abroad? It was something that I wanted to do even before I came to Keele because it’s just such a great experience to be able to have. Naturally there is the whole “it looks great on your CV” argument, (which I cannot deny is attractive) but it’s more than that. For me, study abroad is the opportunity to immerse myself in a culture and way of life that I would not normally get to experience, as well as giving me the opportunity to travel to places that I have never been to before.
I have chosen to study abroad in the USA, “the land of the free and the home of the brave”
Keele has more partner universities in the US than in any other country, including the University of Southern Maine where I’m going to be studying. It’s clearly the obvious choice for someone who is studying American Studies as part of their degree but there is also another reason why I chose America. Studying in America gives me the opportunity to experience first-hand the style of teaching that is offered at American universities and also gives me the ability to be able to enquire about Law School in the States first-hand, a must if I wish to pursuit a career as a litigator there post-graduation. Not only that, but it will give me valuable experience and aid in the rest of my degree (or so I hope).
To round off and summarise here are three points to remember:
- I’m Beckie and study American Studies and History
- I’m going to the University of Southern Maine in the USA
- I want to do study abroad for many reasons but mainly for the awesome experience
Thanks for reading and I hope I didn’t bore you too much!
