Hockey

As I'm sure most of you are aware, Canadians love hockey. Over the course of this semester a few of us brits got into the Canadian hockey spirit and got together a team for intramural ball hockey!
And so team Underdogs was born! (fittingly named as none of us really knew anything about hockey)
The team consisted of three of us girls from Keele and the rest we made up of people who we had come to make friends with on our residence.
As the season began a couple months ago it was fair to say the Underdogs got off to a bit of a rough start... and when I say rough start we pretty much didn't win a game. In fact we didn't win a league match all season...
Nevertheless when the playoffs came about we pulled it together and managed to make it to the finals!!!!!!
... Which we lost.... but hey! We made it that far! Of course it was a plan all along to not win a game all season but to get to the final of the playoffs! - True Underdog style.
We all had such a great time playing and even though we didn't win any games, we blew the teams out of the water in terms of team spirit, don't think any other team was louder than us, or had as many loyal mascots as we did!

More hockey followed when one night we went to downtown St. Catharines to watch the local team, the Niagara Ice Dogs. It was such a good night and we had really good seats with a good view. The best part of the night was at half time: two children's teams would come on and play a game. It was so adorable, they'd slowly ski towards the puck, wiping each other our as they fell over and fall over again as soon as they had hit the puck! Was difficult not to laugh. In the end the Niagara Ice Dogs won with a score of 3-0. Sitting there I could see why the people here love the sport so much - plus the fights do make it more interesting, as does the possibly of the puck flying over the glass and hitting you in the face. This happened to a lady in the first minute of the game by which point fellow Keele student Laurel turns to me and says "That's where we were going to sit, but I booked these seats insetad". Although I'm grateful for not being hit in the face by the puck, I still think it would've made a good souvenir.

Also, as of yesterday, Semester 1 is now officially over!! The next couple weeks will now be filled with revision, exams and packing I guess.

Until next time,
Sophie
